Awarding Scholarships, Fellowships, and Grants
AFPE achieves its mission by funding undergraduate and pre-Pharm.D. research scholarships, first year graduate school scholarships, advanced pre-doctoral fellowships in the pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacy post-Pharm.D. Fellowships in the biomedical research sciences, and pharmacy faculty new investigator grants.

Recognizing and Supporting Talented Students and Faculty
AFPE provides the vehicle for a diverse group of talented students and faculty to be recognized and supported as they pursue advanced pharmaceutical sciences education. These students and faculty learn state-of-the-science knowledge, skills, and techniques of great value to industry and academia as they prepare to participate effectively in achieving the business goals of the pharmaceutical sciences and the academic goals of pharmaceutical education.

Attracting Exceptional Students to the Pharmaceutical Sciences
AFPE "Gateway to Research" Scholarships attract the best U.S. students to careers in the pharmaceutical sciences by supporting exceptional undergraduate or pre-Pharm.D. students in a rigorous faculty supervised pharmaceutical research project. These cutting-edge research experiences frequently motivate the most talented U.S. students to go on to graduate school in the pharmaceutical sciences and careers in industry and academia.

Educating Outstanding Industry-Ready Pharmaceutical Scientists
AFPE Pre-Doctoral Fellowships in the pharmaceutical sciences support the most exceptional Ph.D. students during the advanced, research phase of their pharmaceutical sciences course of study and enable them to focus intensively on industry-oriented subjects such as: drug development, drug delivery, pharmacoeconomics, and manufacturing quality control. In the course of their graduate studies, AFPE Fellows receive drug-focused training, in-depth introductions to industry processes, and experience in the use of teamwork and cross-functional collaboration to achieve research goals.

Nurturing Pharmaceutical Sciences Faculty Researchers
The AACP-AFPE Pharmacy Faculty New Investigators Program and the AFPE Post-Pharm.D. Fellowships in the Biomedical Research Sciences support the early research programs of outstanding pharmaceutical sciences faculty, thereby enabling them to obtain the preliminary data needed to compete successfully for funding from the National Institutes of Health and to conduct research programs that benefit industry and the national health. This nurturing of outstanding pharmacy faculty researchers advances drug discovery and development while simultaneously training the pharmacy faculty needed to develop and teach state of the science pharmacy curricula. Today, about 350 pharmacy faculty members and about one-third of pharmacy deans are former AFPE Fellows.

Supporting State-of-the-Sciences Pharmaceutical Education
AFPE supports graduate training and research in the pharmaceutical sciences including such disciplines as medicinal/pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology/toxicology, pharmaceutics, pharmacoeconomics, pharmacognosy, pharmacokinetics/metabolism, and social and administrative pharmacy. The interest of AFPE corporate and individual contributors in new or evolving scientific fields helps pharmacy educators create state-of-the-art curricula to keep pace with today's rapid advances in drug discovery and development.
