2008-09 AFPE Minority Pharmacy Faculty New Investigator Profile

OGECHI N. IKEDIOBI, PHARM.D., PH.D.
University of California San Francisco
Faculty Position:
Clinical Assistant Professor, Pharmacy Practice
Project Title:
“A Pilot Study to Evaluate the In Vivo Efficacy of Phenothiazines for the Treatment of V600E BRAF Mutant Melanoma”
Project Description:
Metastatic melanoma is a difficult disease to treat and treatment options are limited. Using a pharmacogenomic approach, our research previously identified an association between the presence of a V600E BRAF mutation in human melanoma cell lines and increased efficacy of some phenothiazine compounds. Our research found that, in vitro, other melanomas without the BRAF mutation, such as NRAS mutants and BRAF/NRAS wild types, were not as sensitive to the anti-proliferative pharmacologic effects of phenothiazines. In this study, we propose to assess the in vivo efficacy of phenothiazines in mouse engrafts of BRAF mutant human melanomas compared to NRAF mutant melanomas and BRAF/NRAS wild type melanomas.
AFPE Award:
