Research in the
Daniels lab focuses on Mycobacterium species, including M. tuberculosis,
M. bovis and M. smegmatis. We have particular interest in the study
of gene function in Mycobacterium as a way to identify new targets
for antibiotic therapy and to understand the mechanisms of action
of currently used and experimental antibiotics against tuberculosis. |

To formulate
specific research questions based on the framework set out in the
following general research hypothesis: chronic inflammation, mitochondrial
DNS deletion, oxidative stress are major contributing factors to neurodegeneration,
ultimately leading to neuronal cell death as noted in neurodegenerative
diseases such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease"
and to address those questions in studies employing one or more of
the three cell model systems, either singly or in combination. |
