Focus of Research:

Research in the Daniels lab focuses on Mycobacterium species, including M. tuberculosis, M. bovis and M. smegmatis. We have particular interest in the study of gene function in Mycobacterium as a way to identify new targets for antibiotic therapy and to understand the mechanisms of action of currently used and experimental antibiotics against tuberculosis.

Focus of Research: To formulate specific research questions based on the framework set out in the following general research hypothesis: chronic inflammation, mitochondrial DNS deletion, oxidative stress are major contributing factors to neurodegeneration, ultimately leading to neuronal cell death as noted in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease" and to address those questions in studies employing one or more of the three cell model systems, either singly or in combination.
