Kappa Epsilon-Pfizer-AFPE-Nellie Wakeman First Year Graduate School Scholarship

NAME OF AWARD:
KAPPA EPSILON-PFIZER-AFPE-NELLIE WAKEMAN FIRST YEAR GRADUATE SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP

PURPOSE OF AWARD:
To encourage an outstanding pharmacy school graduate to pursue an advanced degree in the pharmaceutical sciences.

NUMBER OF AWARDS and STIPENDS:
One (1) Kappa Epsilon-Pfizer-AFPE-Nellie Wakeman First Year Graduate Fellowship at $7,500.

The $7,500 may be used for any purpose decided by the awardee and faculty sponsor that will enable the student to have a successful program, e.g. student stipend, laboratory supplies, books, materials, travel related to the program of study. None of the funds shall be used for indirect costs by the institution.

ELIGIBILITY:
An applicant must be in the final year of a pharmacy college Pharm.D. program or have completed a pharmacy degree. Consideration is given to those who need financial assistance to further their education in pharmacy. At the time of application, the Kappa Epsilon member must be in financial good standing with the Fraternity and planning to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree, a Masters degree, or a combined Residency/Masters degree program at a U.S. College or School of Pharmacy. Applicants may apply annually and receive up to three years of financial support.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Please send the following information to Kappa Epsilon. Applications can be downloaded from the Kappa Epsilon web site.

  1. A completed application form. The application form and reference forms are available from a Kappa Epsilon faculty advisor or the Kappa Epsilon Executive Office (913-262-2749).
  2. A letter of recommendation from the faculty advisor and one other faculty member familiar with the applicant. Both faculty members are to complete a letter of reference form.
  3. Official transcripts of all collegiate grades, undergraduate and graduate.

APPLICATION DEADLINE and SELECTION PROCEDURE:

A Kappa Epsilon fellowship selection committee will choose three finalists and the AFPE Board of Grants will select the awardee from these finalists. The recipient will be notified by March 3, 2008. The Fellowship stipend of $7,500 will be provided any time after September 1, 2008 upon receipt of confirmation that the student is enrolled in a full-time pharmacy college advanced degree program. Funding for successful applicants will be provided in two equal stipends on September 1, 2008 and February 2, 2009. Funds must be used in the next academic year after the student is awarded the fellowship.
