2013 Phi Lambda Sigma - AFPE First Year Graduate School Fellowship
NAME OF AWARD:
PHI LAMBDA SIGMA - AFPE FIRST YEAR GRADUATE SCHOOL FELLOWSHIP IN PHARMACEUTICAL
SCIENCE
PURPOSE OF AWARD:
To encourage outstanding Phi Lambda Sigma members to pursue the Ph.D.
in the pharmaceutical sciences in a college of pharmacy graduate program.
NUMBER OF AWARDS and STIPENDS:
One (1) Phi Lambda Sigma - AFPE First Year Graduate School Fellowship
at $7,500.
The $7,500 may be used for any purpose decided by the awardee and faculty
sponsor that will enable the student to have a successful program -- e.g.,
student stipend, laboratory supplies, books, materials, travel, etc. related
to the program of graduate study. None of the funds shall be used for
indirect costs by the institution. The term of the fellowship is 9/1/2013
- 8/31/2014.
ELIGIBILITY:
An applicant must be a member of Phi Lambda Sigma and a pharmacy Pharm.D.
degree student in the final year of professional studies who is planning
to enroll full-time for the Ph.D. degree in the pharmaceutical sciences
after graduation in a Ph.D. degree program at or affiliated with an accredited
U.S. school/college of pharmacy or be a pharmacy Pharm.D. degree student
in the final year of professional studies who is currently enrolled in
a joint Pharm.D./Ph.D. degree program at or affiliated with an accredited
U.S. school or college of pharmacy who will pursue full-time graduate
study in the year the award is made. US citizenship or permanent resident
status is required.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
The following information should be received by February 1, 2013 addressed
to Mary Euler, Pharm.D., Executive Director, Phi Lambda Sigma National
Office, c/o UCSOP, 2300 MacCorkle Ave., SE, Charleston, WV 25304 - www.philambdasigma.org
- Letters of recommendation from two college faculty members who are acquainted with the student and his/her potential for graduate study.
- Name of the graduate school that the student plans to attend (if known).
- A one or two page statement by applicant elaborating reasons for wishing to attend graduate school.
- A list of special honors, awards and accomplishments in high school and college reflecting achievement and ability to succeed in graduate school. This information can be a vital part of the application.
- An official transcript of all collegiate grades and copies of GRE, SAT, and other national achievement test scores.
APPLICATION DEADLINE AND SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Applications for the scholarship are due by February 1, 2013 and the awardee
will be notified by April 15, 2013. The Phi Lambda Sigma awardee will
be chosen by a three-member Selection Committee composed of the Executive
Director and President of the Society and either the President or Chairman
of the Board of Grants of AFPE.
The recipient will be invited to attend an award ceremony held during
the Annual Meeting of the American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA) in
March, 2013 in New Orleans, LA. Funding for successful applicants will
be provided in two equal stipends on September 3, 2013 and February 3,
2014 and upon receipt of confirmation that the student is enrolled in
a pharmacy college graduate program for the Ph.D.
