AFPE PRE-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS IN PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE
AFPE PRE-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS IN CLINICAL PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE
PURPOSE OF AWARDS:
To encourage outstanding pre-doctoral students, who have completed at
least three semesters of graduate study and have not more than three and
a half years remaining, to continue their studies and earn the Ph.D. in
the pharmaceutical sciences at a U.S. school or college of pharmacy. Applications
are encouraged from students with the following majors: Clinical Pharmaceutical
Science, Medicinal/Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences,
Pharmaceutics, Pharmacoeconomics & Health Outcomes Research, Pharmacognosy,
Pharmacokinetics/Metabolism, Pharmacology/Toxicology, Pharmacotherapy
& Experimental Therapeutics, and Social & Administrative Science.
The term of the Fellowship is 9/1/2013 - 8/31/2014.
NUMBER OF AWARDS and STIPENDS:
Up to four (4) new Pre-Doctoral Fellowship in Pharmaceutical Science awards
at $11,000 per year, up to forty-four (44) new and renewal Pre-Doctoral
Fellowship in Pharmaceutical Science awards at $6,500 per year, and up
to ten (10) new Clinical Pharmaceutical Science Fellowships at $6,500
per year. The Fellowship stipend may be used for a purpose decided by
the awardee and college that will enable the student to make progress
in their pursuit of the Ph.D., e.g., student stipend, laboratory supplies,
books, materials, travel, etc. None of the funds shall be used for indirect
costs by the institution. The number of AFPE Pre-doctoral Fellowships
awarded each year depends on the availability of funds.
ELIGIBILITY:
Students who have completed at least three (3) semesters of graduate study
toward the Ph.D. and who have no more than three and a half years remaining
to obtain the Ph.D. degree in a graduate program in the pharmaceutical
sciences administered by, or affiliated with, a U.S. school or college
of pharmacy. Students enrolled in joint Pharm.D./Ph.D. programs are eligible
to apply if they have completed the equivalent of three full semesters
of graduate credit toward the Ph.D., and if the Ph.D. degree will be awarded
within three (3) additional years. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen
or a permanent resident.
RENEWAL ELIGIBILITY:
Succesful applicants are eligible to apply for one renewal for another
full year (12 months) if you will be enrolled full-time in your Ph.D.
program for another full academic year after your 2013 AFPE Fellowship
ends on August 31, 2014.

Please send the following information to AFPE:
- A fully completed AFPE Pre-doctoral Fellowship Application
signed by the Dean of your School or College of Pharmacy. (See note
below.)
- Fully completed Statement of Recommendation and Evaluation Forms
from three college faculty members who are acquainted with the student
and his/her progress in graduate study.
- Official transcripts of all collegiate grades.
NOTE:
- New applicants and students who applied last year and wish to apply
again must complete a full PRE-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION FORM.
- Current FELLOWS who are applying for a renewal must complete a PRE-DOCTORAL
FELLOWSHIP RENEWAL APPLICATION FORM.
APPLICATION DEADLINE AND SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Applications and accompanying documents must be received by March 1, 2013.
The applicant is solely responsible for making certain that all required
materials, including those to be supplied by others, are received by AFPE
no later than March 1, 2013.
Except where stated otherwise, all information requested must be typed
on this form. This application form must be filled out completely. Do
not reference any other supporting documentation as a substitute for completing
any section herein. The Board of Grants will not consider any application
that is incomplete in any respect or is not supported by all required
data. Applicants will be notified by mail of the decisions by the Board
of Grants on or about April 15, 2013. All Fellowships start in the beginning
of September.
